GKG.NET, INC.
GKG is a domain registrar located in College Station, Texas. While employed with GKG, I expanded my perl and mod_perl programming knowledge. The GKG Domain Registration System (GKGDRS) is written entirely in mod_perl. I have worked on several projects and feature additions involving the GKGDRS, which include:
  • expansion of domain parking services;
  • administrative credit card fraud prevention tools;
  • development of the registration partner API tools; and
  • development of a suite of 'profiled registration' tools.
  • development of a dynamic FAQ.
Additionally, I have worked on other GKG projects not related to GKGDRS. They include:
  • GKG training - A calendar of training classes that is maintained through an administrative Web page. The calendar of classes allows customers to select a class they wish to attend and pay for it on-line with a credit card.
  • GKG ISP Signup - GKG offers ISP products that include dialup, ISDN, and DSL connections. Customers interested in purchasing one of these products can pay for it on-line with a credit card. Additionally, I developed a central radius server that is used by GKG administrative personnel to maintain the database of ISP customers. GKG's radius data is housed on several servers using database replication. The database has a customized schema that allows GKG to offer their customers several non-standard services.
  • GKG Hosting - Customers that are interested in hosting their domains with GKG can signup on-line and pay for their hosting package with a credit card.
  • GKG Workorders System - An internal site, the Workorders System allows administrative users to enter workorders from customer requests. The system stores the billing information in a database and submits the orders to GKG's Request Tracker system.
  • GKG Inventory Management System - a multi-client enabled purchase order and requisition system that allows GKG's clients to manage inventories for multiple clients. The application includes an auto-order system that creates new orders when inventory items reach a pre-determined low-stock point, 4-level access heirarchy, and automatic invoicing.
  • GKG Sports Network - I was Webmaster for several sports teams that are part of the GKG sports network. These include:
    • ECHL - America's Premiere AA Hockey League. I did a complete rewrite of the ECHL website and added features like real-time scores, dynamic player statistics, and the ECHL network navigation bar, which is a header bar displayed on participating teams' Websites. The real-time scores and statistics are provided as an XML feed from Sportsticker. I wrote a program that parses the XML feed and puts the information into a database.
    • Altoona Curve - A minor league baseball team located in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Implemented an ecommerce application so fans can purchase apparel and memorabilia directly from the Website. I also maintain the site and provide programming services when necessary.
    • Louisiana Ice Gators - An ECHL team out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Maintain the Website and provide programming services when necessary.
New Generation Feeds
New Generation Feeds is a client of GKG's.
  • Feed Cost Calculator - I rewrote this utility that is used to calculate savings that farmers may experience if they supplement their animal feed using NGF's products.
  • Dealer Services - NGF's dealers may sign up to become members. After logging into a restricted area of the Website, the dealers may download documentation and reports that are made available via an administrative interface.
Dominion Lasercom, Inc.
Dominion Lasercom, Inc. is a client of GKG's.

Texas A&M University
TAMU is a client of GKG's.
  • TAMU Preceptor Scheduler - TAMU's medical school has a program that pairs med students with community preceptors. The students go on "rounds" with the preceptors, and the scheduler is designed to create the schedules based on each student's preferences of medical disciplines. It used to take administrators 2 months to create the schedule by hand. The Preceptor Scheduler allows them to create it in less than 4 hours. In addition, I developed an extension of the Scheduler that enables both preceptors and students to evaluate each other via a Web interface. The evaluations are then converted to PDF files for easy printing.
  • TAMU Virtual Classroom and Exam Module - A comprehensive virtual classroom and Internet exam application. There is a 3-tiered access heirarchy: students, professors, and administrators each have access to separate sections. Administrators can also "assume" the role of individual professors and modify their exam information. Professors create a question "pool" from which questions are selected at random for each exam. The students' exams are timed and they receive their raw score at after they have finished. The questions and their answers are not displayed until after the time available to take the exam has expired.
  • Agtimes.com - Developed a lightweight content management system enabling administrators to post news events, suggested links, and image galleries.
Materials Research Society
MRS is a non-profit scientific organization located in Warrendale, PA. While contracted out to them I worked on the following projects:
  • Meetings Personal Scheduler - MRS sponsors biannual meetings of materials professionals. A large number of symposia are usually offered. Attendees can look through a schedule of events and create a personal itinerary of symposia they're interested in attending. The itinerary can be printed or downloaded in PDA format.
  • Abstract Pre-Processor - Professionals interested in presenting material at one of the meetings can submit their Abstracts online. Each submitted abstract is stored in a 4th Dimension database. After approval, the Abstract is cleaned and any Latex data is "massaged" into HTML format. This data is then presented in the Personal Scheduler mentioned above.
  • I-Timer - An electronic timesheet with a 4-tiered access heirarchy. Employees submit their weekly timesheets online. Supervisors can then approve or reject each employee's submission. Once approved, Department managers can then review each submission or group of submissions. Directors have access to instant reports and can determine which cost centers and tasks are hogging resources or coming in under budget. There are also utilities for generating quarterly and annual reports.
Complete Business Solutions
CBSI is (was) a contracting firm that provided temporary and full-time human resources to companies in the Eastern U.S. While working for them I developed an Internet resume utility that enabled recruiters to upload resumes to a database. Resumes provided in electronic format could be saved and uploaded directly as HTML files, and paper resumes could be scanned, converted to HTML and uploaded. The project included a search utility so recruiters could quickly scan a list of resumes based on keywords instead of flipping through hundreds of paper resumes.
Marconi
Marconi (formerly FORE Systems) is a network component manufacturer and research facility located in Warrendale, PA. While contracted out to them I developed a content management system for organizing and presenting press releases on their Web site. The internal system allowed employees to upload content and image files, created static HTML pages, and stored the data in a database. Older press releases were automatically archived and were periodically removed from the system.
American Heuristics
American Heuristics is a contracting and development company located in Triadelphia, WV. While employed there I developed an Ecommerce template system, checkout procedure, and instantaneous shipping calculator that was presented to companies interested in hosting Ecommerce Web sites. I was an NT administrator and maintained a server that ran ActivateState Perl, Microsoft IIS and Microsoft SQL Server. I also worked on a grade and course scheduler for Linsly School.
National Technology Transfer Center
The NTTC is a client of American Heuristics and is situated on the campus of Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, WV.
  • Worked with a team that prepared the 1998 edition of the NASA Solutions CD, a showcase of new technologies available for licensing from NASA. The CD was developed using Macromedia Authorware and ran on both Windows and Macintosh platforms.
  • I was the NASA TechTracS database administrator (4th Dimension) and wrote several programs in C++ that dumped NASA TechTracS data and converted it to a format acceptable to a BRS database.
